Ribuan orang mula menziarahi jenazah Allahyarham Mursyidul Am PAS Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat di rumahnya di Pulau Melaka di sini, Jumaat.

Orang ramai meliputi pelbagai lapisan masyarakat mula memenuhi kediaman Allahyarham sebaik tersebarnya berita mengenai kematian bekas menteri besar Kelantan selama lebih dua dekad, sejak 1990, pada 9.40 malam Khamis.Jumlah mereka bertambah ramai sejak awal pagi Jumaat.

Nik Abdul Aziz, 84, meninggal dunia di rumahnya selepas sekian lama menghidap kanser prostat.

Antara yang telah menziarahi jenazah ialah Presiden PAS Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Penasihat DAP Lim Kit Siang dan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng.

Jenazah kini ditempatkan di Masjid Pulau Melaka yang terletak berhampiran kediaman Allahyarham untuk memudahkan orang ramai.

Orang ramai dilarang mengambil gambar atas permintaan keluarga.

Sebuah pesawat TransAsia Airways, Taiwan yang membawa 58 penumpang terbabas ketika berlepas sebelum terjunam ke sungai, pagi tadi.

Kira-kira 16 penumpang sudah diselamatkan, kata jabatan penerbangan awam dalam taklimat media di sini.

Seramai 31 pelancong China adalah antara penumpang dalam pesawat itu, kata Biro Pelancongan Taiwan.

Media Taiwan memaparkan gambar pesawat itu dalam Sungai Keelung, yang terletak beberapa meter dari pantai.

Taiwan Central News Agency (CNA) melaporkan pesawat itu yang berlepas dari bandar raya ini dalam penerbangan ke pulau Kinmen, hilang daripada radar kira-kira jam 10.55 pagi dan badan pesawat terjunam ke Sungai Keelung, tidak jauh daripada lapangan terbang Sungshan.

Pesawat jenis ATR-72 turboprop keluaran Perancis itu dikendalikan dua juruterbang.

Badan pesawat itu separuh tenggelam di sungai berkenaan manakala penumpang dan penyelamat dilihat berdiri di badan pesawat dan ada yang berenang ke tebing.

Nahas itu terjadi selang beberapa bulan selepas sebuah pesawat TransAsia ATR-72 terhempas ketika cuba mendarat di Pulau Penghu, Taiwan menyebabkan 48 terbunuh dan 10 cedera. Cuaca buruk dipercayai menjadi punca nahas itu pada Julai lalu. - Reuters

A TransAsia Airways plane crashed into a river in New Taipei City on Wednesday.

The ATR-72-600 turboprop aircraft with 58 onboard, of whom 31 are tourists from mainland China, was flying from Taipei to the offshore island of Kinmen when it crashed into the Keelung River at about 11am, CNA and Reuters said. The plane apparently rammed into the Nanyang Bridge elevated highway in New Taipei City, which encircles Taipei, before falling into the river, the Central News Agency (CNA) said.

The crash happened only two minutes after flight GE235 took off from Songshan Airport in Taipei at 10.52 am, and was suspected to be due to insufficient propelling force, according to United Daily News (UDN) website.

As time ticked away for those inside the fuselage, rescue boats surrounded the wreckage which remains in the middle of the river, with 400 soldiers drafted in to help.

The unprecedented floods in Kelantan have caused an estimated RM200mil in losses, said state flood disaster management director Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

The floods damaged basic infrastructure in the towns of Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Tumpat, Pasir Mas and here.

“This is only a ballpark figure and we have yet to tabulate the losses of the victims. We are now compiling the full data on losses from them.

“At the same time, the victims need temporary shelter, especially for areas in Gua Musang and Kuala Krai, before school starts this year.

“A total of 516 houses were destroyed in Gua Musang and 38 houses were swept away in Kuala Krai.
